About Me

Welcome! I was born in 1956 in Amsterdam, the third of seven children. My father worked as a mathematician at Werkspoor, and my mother managed the household full-time — a demanding job in those days, especially with such a large family.
We were raised in a Catholic home: on Sundays we went to church, and during the week we attended Catholic schools. My brothers went to boys’ schools, while my sisters and I went to girls’ schools. After secondary school, I enrolled in a teacher training program for drawing at the Rietveld Academy, where my love for visual expression truly blossomed.
Later, I decided to study biology in Utrecht — a choice driven by my curiosity about life and nature. Eleven years later, I graduated, having worked in my husband’s veterinary practice as a veterinary assistant while raising our three children. Shortly after, our fourth child was born.
When she turned three, I founded Gemm'Art — my own illustration business. My dream was to earn a living through drawing, so I could leave my job as an assistant. That dream became reality when my husband sold his practice and began working for the government. Since then, I’ve been fully dedicated to illustration — with heart and soul.
